New Gun Owner 101- Train & Try

As firearms ownership in America continues to grow exponentially, so does the need for immediate, general training. The New Gun Owner – Train & Try courses are designed to give a fast introduction to a firearm that you just purchased, or intend to purchase in the near future.

In This Course We Cover:

  • FIREARMS SAFETY
  • The Basic Parts of Rifles, Pistols and Shotguns
  • Loading and Unloading
  • Explanation of Different Ammunition Types and Function
  • Basic Shooting Stance
  • Transportation
  • Storage
  • AND MORE

Followed by a Live-Fire Range Session!

Your own gun is best, but if you don’t own one yet we can provide your choice of ONE of the following platforms:

  • Pump-Action Shotgun
  • Semi-Auto Shotgun
  • Traditional Semi-Auto Rifle (with license)
  • AR-15 Rifle (with license)
  • Lever-action rifle
  • Bolt-Action rifle
  • Break-Barrel Shotgun (single or double barrel)
  • Semi-Auto Handgun (NYS pistol permit required)
  • Revolver (NYS pistol permit required)

Your own gun is recommended to take this course, however loaner upgrade packages are available should you not already own your own firearm.

**If borrowing a gun you must use our ammunition. If a loaner is needed please indicate upon registration and you will be invoiced prior to the course***
(Loaner Firearm & 2 Boxes of Ammunition – $30)

***If you are bringing your own gun, you must also supply your own ammunition for use during the course.***

Requirements and Restrictions:

  • If bringing your own firearm 20-100 Rounds of Ammunition – *Shotgunners – Bring #6,7, or 8 Birdshot ammo (NO SLUGS)
  • Your own eye and ear protection is recommended
  • Bottle of water
  • Courses only open to U.S. Citizens or Non-U.S. citizens who are: (1) lawful permanent residents (e.g., green card holders), (2) refugees, or (3) individuals who have been granted asylum. Visa holders (Work, Travel,  Ect.) are not eligible for any courses involving firearms.
  • Ages 14 and up
